A month after police shot and killed Joshua Samaroo after a high-speed chase that started in Maloney and ended in St Augustine, Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro has confirmed that investigators in the matter have met with officials from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), in what he described as an “initial meeting.”
Samaroo was shot and killed by police on January 20, after officers pursued the vehicle he was driving from Maloney.
During the chase, police claim they were shot at by him and returned fire.
Security camera footage of the incident, which surfaced on social media, showed police shooting Samaroo while he apparently tried to surrender after he crashed his car in St Augustine.
During the shooting, Samaroo’s common-law wife Kaia Sealy was wounded.
Responding to questions on whether there have been any updates on the enquiry, Guevarro said he could only confirm that officers involved in the enquiry met with the DPP.
No other information was made available.
Police-involved shootings are usually investigated by a First Division Officer (FDO), which is a police officer at the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) or higher.
