Most of Trinidad currently is under a Localised Flood Alert/Yellow Level, which was activated at 10:15 am today.
Various parts of the island can expect traffic delays because of localised flooding and ponding on various roadways, in addition to visibility issues from thunderstorms.
An advisory issued by the T&T Met Service says the Alert will be in effect until about 4:00 this afternoon.
“Periods of rain of varying intensities and isolated heavy showers/thunderstorms are expected today due to the presence of the ITCZ (Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone),” the Met Service advisory notes.
Forecasters warn that among the key impacts of today’s rough weather are localized flooding and ponding, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas; potential traffic delays due to water accumulation on roadways; and reduced visibility during heavy downpours, which may affect driving conditions.
Members of the public are encouraged to monitor weather conditions and assess surroundings before venturing out.
In addition, the Met Service warns against driving or wading through flood waters.
It also encourages the public to follow the instructions of government officials, and stay updated on developments at its website at www.metoffice.gov.tt
