A 42-year-old Matura man died after he reportedly ingested a poisonous substance, after he was confronted about allegations that he sexually assaulted a seven-year-old girl.
Police said Brendon Ramlogan was confronted by the mother of the girl, who he knew well, about the alleged assault, which led to a fight at Francis Trace, Matura, on Sunday.
However, after the scuffle, Ramlogan went into hiding.
On Monday afternoon, Ramlogan was found lying in the front yard of a relative’s home in Salybia Village. Family members took him to the Sangre Grande Hospital and were met by an ambulance along the way.
He died hours later while being treated.
A team of police visited the scene and are continuing inquiries.
