Man with cocaine to pay workers held by cops

Po­lice ar­rest­ed a fish­er­man af­ter seiz­ing 17.3 grammes of co­caine from his home in Erin on Wednes­day, which was al­leged­ly hid­den in a toi­let bowl.

Po­lice said the 40-year-old man claimed he was go­ing to give the drugs to work­ers as pay­ment for tend­ing to his goats and sheep near his home. 

The co­caine con­sist­ed of 48 pieces.

He was de­tained at the San­ta Flo­ra Po­lice Sta­tion where he was charged by PC Johnit­ty with pos­ses­sion of co­caine for the pur­pose of traf­fick­ing.

The man's home was raid­ed dur­ing a State of Emer­gency ex­er­cise, be­tween 4 am and 8 am in the San­ta Flo­ra and Erin dis­tricts by of­fi­cers of the South West­ern Di­vi­sion led by Snr Supt Thomp­son, Supt Sookdeo and ASP Forbes. He is ex­pect­ed to ap­pear in court to­day.
