A heat­ed dis­pute es­ca­lat­ed in­to fa­tal gun­fire as 30-year-old Nichol­son Bowen, al­so known as “Bal­co”, was shot and killed near his home in Lendore Vil­lage on Fri­day evening.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, Bowen was in­volved in an al­ter­ca­tion with a group of young men from the area on Thurs­day. The ten­sion reignit­ed the fol­low­ing day around 5 pm, lead­ing to an­oth­er con­fronta­tion. Bowen lat­er re­turned home but, around 5:30 pm, stepped out­side on­to the road­way, where gun­fire erupt­ed mo­ments lat­er.

First re­spon­ders from the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion Task Force North ar­rived at the scene at 5:40 p.m., find­ing Bowen’s mo­tion­less body on the north­ern side of the road­way. He was clad in black three-quar­ter pants and shirt­less, with mul­ti­ple gun­shot wounds. Sev­en­teen spent 9mm shell cas­ings, and a pro­jec­tile was re­cov­ered at the scene.

The Dis­trict Med­ical Of­fi­cer pro­nounced Bowen dead, and his body was re­moved to Boodoo’s Fu­ner­al Home for safe­keep­ing ahead of a post-mortem ex­am­i­na­tion at the Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions are on­go­ing, and po­lice are seek­ing in­for­ma­tion re­gard­ing the in­di­vid­u­als in­volved in the pri­or al­ter­ca­tions. Any­one with knowl­edge of the in­ci­dent is urged to con­tact au­thor­i­ties.
