Housing Minister David Lee has outlined plans to construct more than 3,300 single-family homes across Trinidad over the next 15 months, saying the Government’s housing programme will not discriminate based on political affiliation.
Speaking in Parliament on Friday night, Lee listed 24 housing sites earmarked for construction, from Santa Rosa in Arima to Rio Claro and Moruga.
“We don’t know who is PNM when we’re giving out homes. We give out homes for the people of Trinidad and Tobago,” he said.
Lee said the Government expected to have handed over the keys to about 900 homes by the end of this year, before outlining its construction plans for the coming 15 months.
The largest developments on his list include 512 homes at 16th Street and Edinburgh 500, 354 at Savonetta Phase One in Claxton Bay, 334 at La Cubierta in Arima, 332 at Santa Rosa Two and 288 at Savonetta Phase Three.
Other developments include 225 homes at Pineapple Smith in Mausica, 179 at Santa Rosa One and 163 at Carson Yard in Arima.
Lee also made clear that the programme would focus exclusively on single-family homes, rather than townhouses.
“These are single-family homes. These are not townhouses. I want to tell you, we don’t build townhouses,” he said.
