Aaron Seebaran was being chased by a gunman who shouted “whey meh money,” when he ran into the yard of a Williamsville home on Thursday afternoon. Moments later, the 49-year-old labourer was shot dead.
Neighbours last saw Seebaran on Thursday morning, playing with his dog before taking out the garbage and leaving for the day.
They described the Union Road, Marabella, resident as a quiet man who lived alone.
When Guardian Media visited his home, no one was there.
Police said officers of the Southern Division Task Force were on mobile patrol when they received a report of a shooting near the Williamsville Community Centre around 4.20 pm.
They arrived at the two-storey concrete-and-wood house ten minutes later and found the front gate open.
Police said a man was in a shed at the back of the property, about to prepare a meal, when he saw Seebaran running towards the back of his house while another man, armed with a firearm, chased him.
The gunman shouted “whey meh money” and fired three shots at Seebaran before running away.
Shortly afterwards, Seebaran’s body was found slouched in the toilet area at the back of the premises.
Crime scene investigators from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region Three, processed the scene and retrieved two spent 9mm Luger shells, one fragment and a black Samsung cellphone in a clear casing.
Police said further enquiries led Sgt Singh and a party of Southern Division Task Force officers to a blue Hyundai Elantra at Unity East Garth Road.
The vehicle is believed to have been involved in the incident.
Police investigations are ongoing.
In a separate incident, a 45-year-old San Juan man was gunned down on Wednesday.
Amin “Boogieman” De Leon, of Quarry Road, San Juan, was standing inside a parlour when gunman came up from behind and shot him before running off.
Police recovered 12 spent 9mm shell casings, one 5.56 shell casing and two deformed projectiles.
Police said the incident is believed to be gang-related.
