Fa­ther Mau­rice White, who was bad­ly beat­en dur­ing a vi­o­lent rob­bery in Ve­ga de Oropouche, San­gre Grande, over the week­end, has been dis­charged from the hos­pi­tal and is re­cov­er­ing.

The Arch­dio­cese of Port of Spain has since ex­pressed grat­i­tude for the pub­lic’s sup­port.

In its lat­est state­ment is­sued on Tues­day, the Arch­dio­cese con­firmed White’s dis­charge, stat­ing:

"The Arch­dio­cese of Port of Spain thanks every­one for their prayers and sup­port fol­low­ing the re­cent in­ci­dent in­volv­ing Fr. White, who was a vic­tim of a rob­bery. He has been dis­charged from the hos­pi­tal and is re­cov­er­ing well."

The state­ment fur­ther em­pha­sized that the Arch­dio­cese is co­op­er­at­ing ful­ly with the au­thor­i­ties and re­mains com­mit­ted to "prayer, trans­paren­cy, and jus­tice."

Po­lice of­fi­cers in­ter­cept­ed and ar­rest­ed three sus­pects re­port­ed­ly in­volved in the rob­bery of Fa­ther Mau­rice short­ly af­ter the in­ci­dent on Sat­ur­day, as they at­tempt­ed to es­cape along the Sir Solomon Ho­choy High­way, Freeport.
