Almost one month after Guardian Media highlighted his health challenges in our Guardians of the People segment, 42-year-old Anderson Mitchell has passed away.
After an 11-year battle with Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), a kidney disease that prevents the organ from filtering toxins in his blood, which eventually led to end-stage renal disease (kidney failure), Mitchell was unable to get the life-saving donation of a kidney in time.
Mitchell was receiving peritoneal dialysis, a temporary solution, while he waited for a transplant that never came.
Guardian Media learned via social media that Mitchell lost the fight on Tuesday 4 February.
While battling with the disease, Mitchell was also trying to raise awareness about the difficulties of acquiring organ donations within T&T.
