The Fire Service has launched an investigation into a fire that broke out at the Scarborough Library yesterday afternoon.
The blaze, which began around 2 pm, appeared to have originated in the roof of the library located at Garden Side Street, Scarborough.
It was brought under control around 5 pm.
Marlon Charles, acting assistant divisional chief fire officer, told Guardian Media that two fire trucks and crews responded to tackle the blaze, which seemed to be coming from the library’s roof. However, there wasn’t much smoke on the outside to alert anyone that something was taking place inside the library.
Staff and people using the library had to be evacuated. However, no one was injured.
He said, “Everything was brought under control, the fire is under control and the building. Once there is fire there will always be damage but to the extent I do not know as yet.”
Police, as well as the Tobago Emergency Management Agency, were also on the scene.
The Fire Service was unable to say what caused the fire in the fist place.
The cost of repairs is yet to be determined.
