Police Commissioner Erla Harewood-Christopher is reportedly being questioned by investigators at her office at the Police Administration Building in Port-of-Spain.
Investigators arrived at the building around 10 a.m. The investigation is believed to be related to the importation of two sniper rifles for the Strategic Services Agency, sources tell Guardian Media.
However, there has been no official comment from the TTPS.
In the meantime, executive members of the TTPS met today in a session chaired by Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations Junior Benjamin.
Guardian Media spoke with TTPS Legal Officer Zahir Ali, who referred questions to the Corporate Communications Unit, which has not yet responded to our queries.
National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds did not answer calls.
Opposition MP Dr. Roodal Moonilal declined to comment on what he called an unfolding development.
"The facts are not known at this time, but I can say this is another disturbing event in an already distressing week."
Former Police Commissioner Gary Griffith also declined to comment.
