Police Commissioner Erla Harewood-Christopher spent Thursday night at the St Clair Police Station, Port-of-Spain after being detained for questioning in relation to ongoing investigations into the Strategic Services Agency (SSA).
The interrogation led by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Intelligence and Investigations, Suzette Martin, began at the CoP’s office around 10 am Thursday.
Her attorneys told Guardian Media that she will remain at the station pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard.
Harewood-Christopher, the country’s first woman police chief is being questioned in relation to the issuance of two firearm user’s licences for AX2 bolt action sniper rifles by the SSA. Sources said she could be charged with misbehaviour in public office after key documents pertaining to the FULs went missing.
Her detention came a day after former SSA head Roger Best was held for questioning by police. Best remains at the Belmont Police Station.
