Contractor shot, injured in robbery at Arima worksite

Ban­dits robbed and shot a con­trac­tor at an Ari­ma work­site yes­ter­day.

Po­lice say around 9:00 am on 17 Jan­u­ary 2025 two men, 49-years-old and 33-years-old from Pe­nal, were dredg­ing a riv­er on the Churchill Roo­sevelt High­way op­po­site the San­ta Rosa Race Track when two armed sus­pects ap­proached the two work­ers and an­nounced a rob­bery. They stole a Sam­sung A21 phone, $500 cash from one vic­tim, and a Sam­sung A04 phone and $45 cash from the oth­er.

The sus­pects told the 49-year-old con­trac­tor that no work could con­tin­ue at the site un­less mon­ey was paid. One of the sus­pects then shot the con­trac­tor in the right leg be­fore both fled on foot, head­ing north through near­by bush­es.

The in­jured vic­tim was tak­en to the Ari­ma Hos­pi­tal by co-work­ers and re­mains in sta­ble con­di­tion. Po­lice are con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions and plan to re­vis­it the hos­pi­tal for up­dates.

Both sus­pects are de­scribed as be­ing of African de­scent, brown com­plex­ion, slim build, and with their faces cov­ered.
