Bandits robbed and shot a contractor at an Arima worksite yesterday.
Police say around 9:00 am on 17 January 2025 two men, 49-years-old and 33-years-old from Penal, were dredging a river on the Churchill Roosevelt Highway opposite the Santa Rosa Race Track when two armed suspects approached the two workers and announced a robbery. They stole a Samsung A21 phone, $500 cash from one victim, and a Samsung A04 phone and $45 cash from the other.
The suspects told the 49-year-old contractor that no work could continue at the site unless money was paid. One of the suspects then shot the contractor in the right leg before both fled on foot, heading north through nearby bushes.
The injured victim was taken to the Arima Hospital by co-workers and remains in stable condition. Police are continuing investigations and plan to revisit the hospital for updates.
Both suspects are described as being of African descent, brown complexion, slim build, and with their faces covered.
