Citi em­ploy­ees trad­ed their desks for paint­brush­es as the fi­nan­cial in­sti­tu­tion marked Glob­al Com­mu­ni­ty Day 2026 with a hands-on com­mu­ni­ty project to im­prove the lives of res­i­dents at the Eter­nal Light Com­mu­ni­ty – Joshua House.

In a news re­lease, Citi said em­ploy­ees, their fam­i­lies and com­mu­ni­ty part­ners came to­geth­er to re­paint the in­te­ri­or of the res­i­den­tial fa­cil­i­ty as part of the com­pa­ny's an­nu­al glob­al vol­un­teer ini­tia­tive.

The project was de­signed to im­prove the liv­ing en­vi­ron­ment for res­i­dents by cre­at­ing a brighter, safer and more wel­com­ing space while re­in­forc­ing Citi's com­mit­ment to com­mu­ni­ty de­vel­op­ment.

Citi Trinidad & To­ba­go Coun­try Of­fi­cer Mitchell De Sil­va said Glob­al Com­mu­ni­ty Day re­flects the in­sti­tu­tion's be­lief that stronger com­mu­ni­ties are built when peo­ple work to­geth­er.

"In Trinidad & To­ba­go, we are proud to work along­side our em­ploy­ees, fam­i­lies, and com­mu­ni­ty part­ners to sup­port ini­tia­tives that pro­mote op­por­tu­ni­ty, strength­en lo­cal or­ga­ni­za­tions, and con­tribute to the long-term well-be­ing of the peo­ple and com­mu­ni­ties we serve," De Sil­va said.

Glob­al Com­mu­ni­ty Day is Citi's world­wide vol­un­teer pro­gramme that brings to­geth­er em­ploy­ees, alum­ni, fam­i­ly mem­bers and friends to par­tic­i­pate in com­mu­ni­ty ser­vice projects in the coun­tries where the bank op­er­ates.

This year marks the 21st an­niver­sary of the ini­tia­tive, which be­gan in 2006 to en­cour­age em­ploy­ees to give back through vol­un­teerism. Citi said the pro­gramme has be­come a key part of its cor­po­rate cul­ture, help­ing to strength­en re­la­tion­ships with com­mu­ni­ties while en­cour­ag­ing team­work among em­ploy­ees.

The com­pa­ny said the Joshua House project re­flects its wider com­mit­ment to sup­port­ing or­gan­i­sa­tions that make a tan­gi­ble dif­fer­ence in peo­ple's lives and to in­vest­ing in ini­tia­tives that cre­ate last­ing so­cial im­pact.

De Sil­va said mean­ing­ful part­ner­ships re­main crit­i­cal to build­ing stronger com­mu­ni­ties.
