Po­lice ar­rest­ed 24 peo­ple and seized two firearms and quan­ti­ties of am­mu­ni­tion dur­ing sev­er­al on­go­ing State of Emer­gency Op­er­a­tions in the Cen­tral, North­ern Cen­tral and Port of Spain Di­vi­sions on Mon­day and Tues­day this week.

The Po­lice Ser­vice re­ports that an an­ti-crime ex­er­cise was con­duct­ed in the Cou­va dis­trict, be­tween 6 pm and 8 pm on Mon­day (Jan­u­ary 20, 2025), dur­ing which of­fi­cers stopped and searched a green coloured Nis­san Almera mo­tor ve­hi­cle with two male oc­cu­pants.

The search re­sult­ed in the dis­cov­ery of one re­volver and four rounds of am­mu­ni­tion.

The two oc­cu­pants of the ve­hi­cle—a 61-year-old and 25-year-old, both of Freeport—were ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the find.

The TTPS al­so re­ports that an ex­er­cise was con­duct­ed be­tween 5:30 am and 8:30 am on Tues­day (Jan­u­ary 21, 2025), in the North Cen­tral Di­vi­sion, which in­volved of­fi­cers of the Task Force Ar­eas East and West, the Arou­ca Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment (CID) and the St. Joseph CID.

Act­ing on in­tel­li­gence ob­tained, the of­fi­cers pro­ceed­ed to the St. Au­gus­tine dis­trict, where they con­duct­ed a search at the home of an 18-year-old male sus­pect.

The search re­sult­ed in the dis­cov­ery of three mag­a­zines and a quan­ti­ty of am­mu­ni­tion hid­den in a bed­room of the house.

The sus­pect was ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the find.

And, in the Port of Spain Di­vi­sion, sev­er­al search­es were con­duct­ed at the Dun­can Street and Nel­son Street Plan­nings.  Sev­er­al pri­or­i­ty of­fend­ers were tar­get­ed dur­ing that op­er­a­tion.

The TTPS says po­lice of­fi­cers ar­rest­ed 21 sus­pects for vary­ing of­fences in­clud­ing firearm and shoot­ing of­fences, rob­bery and the lar­ce­ny of elec­tric­i­ty.  They al­so seized a pis­tol and a quan­ti­ty of am­mu­ni­tion.

The TTPS con­firmed that in­ves­ti­ga­tions are on­go­ing in all these mat­ters.
