Police arrested 24 people and seized two firearms and quantities of ammunition during several ongoing State of Emergency Operations in the Central, Northern Central and Port of Spain Divisions on Monday and Tuesday this week.
The Police Service reports that an anti-crime exercise was conducted in the Couva district, between 6 pm and 8 pm on Monday (January 20, 2025), during which officers stopped and searched a green coloured Nissan Almera motor vehicle with two male occupants.
The search resulted in the discovery of one revolver and four rounds of ammunition.
The two occupants of the vehicle—a 61-year-old and 25-year-old, both of Freeport—were arrested in connection with the find.
The TTPS also reports that an exercise was conducted between 5:30 am and 8:30 am on Tuesday (January 21, 2025), in the North Central Division, which involved officers of the Task Force Areas East and West, the Arouca Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the St. Joseph CID.
Acting on intelligence obtained, the officers proceeded to the St. Augustine district, where they conducted a search at the home of an 18-year-old male suspect.
The search resulted in the discovery of three magazines and a quantity of ammunition hidden in a bedroom of the house.
The suspect was arrested in connection with the find.
And, in the Port of Spain Division, several searches were conducted at the Duncan Street and Nelson Street Plannings. Several priority offenders were targeted during that operation.
The TTPS says police officers arrested 21 suspects for varying offences including firearm and shooting offences, robbery and the larceny of electricity. They also seized a pistol and a quantity of ammunition.
The TTPS confirmed that investigations are ongoing in all these matters.
