Days after the official opening of the Pennywise Plaza at the Trincity Industrial Estate, Trincity Mall has announced a major restructuring plan.
In a post to social media, the Mall stated, “A New Chapter Begins: Trincity Reimagined”
The post stated, “For decades, Trincity Mall has been more than a shopping destination, it’s where family outings, weekend link-ups and lasting memories happen. It’s a place that feels like home. Because this space means so much to our community, transformation is officially underway! “
The post continued, “Introducing Trincity Mall Reimagined, a multi-phase evolution bringing you: Modern upgrades; refreshed spaces; enhanced comfort.”
The post closed, “The mall you love isn’t changing its heart, we’re simply reimagining its future, every step taken with you in mind. Stay tuned as we unveil what’s next! “
In a subsequent post, the Mall said, “From the iconic memories of yesterday to the modern spaces of tomorrow, welcome to Trincity Reimagined: The Mall You Love. Reimagined. We’re blending the familiar comfort of the Trincity Mall you’ve always known with fresh, modern architecture, dynamic new amenities, and enhanced spaces for shopping, dining, and relaxing. “
The post then detailed some of the plans which would be undertaken.
It said, “Here’s a first look at what we’re building for you: Then & Now: Honouring our roots while stepping into a bold new design era. Modern spaces: Upgraded interiors, sleek seating, and open lighting designed for ultimate convenience. Coming Soon: Construction begins this month at the Caribbean Cinemas Block!”
Prior to this, the Mall did host World Cup viewing events on location, while also sharing nostalgic posts to its social media concerning the mall’s evolution.
Trincity Mall’s standing has fallen significantly since the COVID-19 pandemic, as it was regularly lost tenants since then.
The Mall’s standing as one of East Trinidad’s, if not the country’s, top shopping centres had been consistently dropping even before the pandemic as several other shopping complexes began to develop in the Trincity area. This included the opening of Massy Superstore in 2014, Trincity Plaza in 2019 and East Gates Mall on December 9, 2022.
Since then Pennywise Plaza opened last week, while plans for an Xtra Foods Plaza to be developed in the area are ongoing.
However the Mall’s plight was further weakened by uncertainty concerning its ownership following the liquidation of the CL Financial (CLF) group, which was the parent company of Home Construction Limited (HCL).
In 1984, HCL opened Trincity Mall, which was considered the group’s “crown jewel” in its commercial property portfolio.
While other HCL properties including Valpark and Atlantic Plaza were successfully sold following the liquidation of CLF, the planned sale of Trincity Mall has seen challenges despite potential buyers expressing interest.
In 2024, the ANSA McAL group, then the preferred bidder to acquire Trincity Mall, withdrew from the transaction, and the mall was re-listed for sale.
In 2025, the shopping centre had been reportedly sold by the liquidators of the CL Financial group to a consortium of real estate developers—Johnny Aboud, Anthony Rahael, and contractors KallCo and Fides Ltd. The sale price was $505 million.
However an injunction restrained the liquidator of CL Financial from completing the sale of Trincity Commercial Centre, which includes the Trincity Mall, until October 27, 2025.
