Nicole Commissiong
As the year draws to a close, I find myself thinking about how I want to feel when the new one begins. Rested. Grounded. Clear about where I am heading.
Where I live currently, cooler temperatures invite us indoors for warmth and commit us to a hibernating state. In Trinidad and Tobago, the glow of deyas for Divali, the sound of parang and preparations for Christmas bring their own warmth and belonging. Gathering around a table, sharing familiar food and reconnecting with loved ones can bring us back to what matters.
Yet our well-being deserves a place in the preparations, too.
The fourth quarter offers an opportunity to reflect:
What restored me this year?
What depleted me?
Where have I grown, and what needs to change?
These questions belong in our careers and businesses as well.
Which projects were meaningful?
What skills need strengthening?
What support would help us lead better?
As we prepare for the first quarter, we can turn those reflections into practical commitments: review business priorities, identify a professional development opportunity and set realistic goals alongside time for rest, movement and family.
I want my plans to reflect both my ambition and my well-being. I want to grow professionally and have the energy to enjoy the life that work supports.
This season, let us find time for celebration, quiet reflection and thoughtful preparation. We can enter the new year with purpose, giving our goals and ourselves the care they deserve.
That, too, is living well on purpose.
