Goal-shoot­er Maikea Bram­ble of Soul City was recog­nised as the “Most Valu­able Play­er” (MVP) for her team and the top shoot­er in the A Di­vi­sion of the Lystra Lewis Port-of-Spain Net­ball League (LL­POSNL), which con­clud­ed on Mon­day fol­low­ing an ex­cit­ing Men’s Di­vi­sion fi­nal at the Wood­brook Youth Fa­cil­i­ty.

​Bram­ble, who suit­ed up for the Uni­ver­si­ty of the West In­dies (UWI) last sea­son, won the same ho­n­ours in the A2 Di­vi­sion last year af­ter shoot­ing 426/468 (91%). This sea­son, she shot with an out­stand­ing 95% ac­cu­ra­cy, scor­ing 418 goals from 441 at­tempts to help Soul City play un­beat­en and claim the pre­mier di­vi­sion league ti­tle in this 87th edi­tion of the LL­POSNL.

​Bram­ble, last year’s na­tion­al Un­der-21 cap­tain and who was re­cent­ly named on the se­nior T&T team for the Cen­tral Amer­i­can and Caribbean (CAC) Games, en­sured that Soul City topped the 10-team di­vi­sion with 18 points, fol­lowed by Po­lice Net­ball Sec­tion ‘A’ and Spar­toms in sec­ond and third place, re­spec­tive­ly. Both run­ners-up fin­ished with 13 points from six wins, a draw, and two loss­es, but Po­lice se­cured sec­ond place with a su­pe­ri­or goal dif­fer­ence of 118 com­pared to Spar­toms’ 32. Soul City was hop­ing for a clean sweep of the di­vi­sion, but Po­lice Net­ball Sec­tion ‘A’ dis­rupt­ed those plans by cap­tur­ing the Knock­out crown.

​Among the oth­er league cham­pi­ons cel­e­brat­ed on Mon­day evening was Hori­zon Sports and Cul­tur­al Club, which topped the In­ters Di­vi­sion un­de­feat­ed. Ranes­sa Ser­rette was named the MVP for the team.

​Barataria Po­lice Youth Club (PYC) al­so had much to cel­e­brate, cap­tur­ing ti­tles in two cat­e­gories: the B Di­vi­sion and the Ki­wis Di­vi­sion. In the group stages, Barataria PYC topped Group Y of the B Di­vi­sion and Group X of the Ki­wi Di­vi­sion be­fore go­ing on to emerge as the over­all cham­pi­ons in both. Alaya Dow (B Di­vi­sion) and Akeela Williams (Ki­wis Di­vi­sion) were named the MVPs for their re­spec­tive cham­pi­onship teams.

​The Men’s Di­vi­sion league ti­tle came down to the wire, with Po­lice Net­ball Sec­tion de­feat­ing De­fence Force 49-42 in a thrilling fi­nal.

​Jer­rell Door­bal, who was named MVP for Po­lice and the di­vi­sion’s top shoot­er with 273 goals from 296 at­tempts (92%), pro­duced a dom­i­nant 38 goals from 40 at­tempts in the de­cider to keep his team ahead through­out the match. Po­lice con­trolled the pace from the first pass, lead­ing 10-6 at the end of the first quar­ter, 25-15 at half­time, and 36-33 by the third pe­ri­od. For De­fence Force, goal-shoot­er Ker­ry McMil­lan fought hard, scor­ing 31 goals from 37 at­tempts, though his ef­fort ul­ti­mate­ly fell short.
