Ross Ramkissoon turned the tables on a competitive men’s field on the final day of the Pointe-a-Pierre Golf Club Three-Day Golf Championship Open in San Fernando on Sunday (January 25), bringing the curtain down on a highly competitive tournament that offered players the opportunity to earn valuable World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points.
The championship flight delivered the drama many had anticipated, as young Ramkissoon produced a composed final round to edge defending champion Liam Bryden by a single stroke.
Ramkissoon finished with a three-round aggregate of 217 to lift the overall trophy, while Bryden settled for second on 218, and Ross Cabral completed the podium in third place with a total of 233. Eleven of the nation’s best players, including the sports general secretary, Wayne Baptiste, who finished fourth with a score of 234, challenge each other for honours.
In the First Flight, which had 16 players, another rising talent emerged victorious. Adam Green mounted a late surge, overturning the overnight deficit to secure the win with a three-day score of 245. Shiva Arjoonsingh finished close behind on 246, while early pace-setter Brian Fares rounded out the top three with 247.
The Ladies’ Flight also produced standout performances across the three days from the nine participants. Victoria Seenath captured top honours with an impressive score of 238, overtaking first-round leader Isabella Ramdeen, who finished second with 251. Promising youngster Hailey Layne claimed third place with a total of 254.
Competition in the Second Flight, which fielded the most players (23), saw Shammi Seepersad emerge victorious with a two-day score of 166, with overnight leader Kumar Emanuel second with 169, followed by Ravi Maharaj third with 171. The best nett of 68 was recorded by Navin Dookeran, who was sixth overall.
The Third Flight, which featured 21 players, ended with Edison Sagram securing first place with 176.
A countback was required to separate second and third, with Manichan Roopchand edging Damian Sarwan for second after both posted identical scores of 179. Sarwan posted the best nett score of 70. In the Masters Flight for players aged 70 and over, experience proved decisive as Ahamad Ali claimed the title with a two-round total of 157.
Fabian Rocker Lee Foon finished second on 161, followed by Pran Rajendranath in third with 164.
