Persistent rain once again proved to be the biggest competitor in the CG United Super50 Cup Tuesday, as both scheduled matches for the fourth round were abandoned or ended in a no-result due to the weather.
The morning match between T&T Red Force and Windward Islands Volcanoes at the Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground in St Augustine was abandoned without a ball being bowled. Persistent early-morning showers left the outfield waterlogged, forcing match officials to call off the contest just before 10 am. This marks a frustrating pattern at the venue, which has seen its fourth straight game in the truncated tournament affected by rain.
The abandonment means Red Force, who entered the round in second place, gained two points without taking the field, bringing their total to 22 points. The Volcanoes, who were sitting in third, also received two points to move to 17.
The afternoon fixture between tournament leader Barbados Pride and Jamaica Scorpions at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, San Fernando, also ended in a no-result, resulting in the points being shared.
The no-result sees the Barbados Pride maintain their lead at the top of the table. The continuous interruptions due to weather are posing a significant challenge to the tournament, which was already reduced to six teams this year due to financial constraints.
