THIRU­VANAN­THA­PU­RAM – In­dia cruised to a com­fort­able eight-wick­et vic­to­ry over the West In­dies in the open­ing One-Day In­ter­na­tion­al at the Green­field In­ter­na­tion­al Sta­di­um in In­dia on Sun­day, pow­ered by com­mand­ing cen­turies from Vi­rat Kohli and Shub­man Gill.

​Chas­ing a tar­get of 296, the hosts con­trolled the con­test from the out­set, reach­ing 300 for two with 50 balls to spare. Kohli an­chored the chase with a sub­lime, un­beat­en 139, fea­tur­ing flaw­less stroke­play and pre­cise ac­cel­er­a­tion. He found a ide­al part­ner in Gill, who struck a styl­ish 110. The pair com­piled a de­ci­sive 212-run part­ner­ship for the sec­ond wick­et, ef­fec­tive­ly ex­tin­guish­ing the vis­i­tors' hopes af­ter skip­per Ro­hit Shar­ma fell ear­ly for 32. Ru­tu­raj Gaik­wad chipped in with an un­beat­en 13 to wrap up the win.

​Ear­li­er, West In­dies re­cov­ered from a slug­gish start to post a com­pet­i­tive 295 for sev­en af­ter be­ing sent in to bat. Justin Greaves head­lined the in­nings with a bril­liant 101, mark­ing a stand­out mile­stone in his ODI ca­reer. Open­ing bats­man John Camp­bell laid a sol­id foun­da­tion with a crisp 62, while wick­et­keep­er-bats­man Amir Jan­goo pro­vid­ed late mo­men­tum with an ag­gres­sive 58 not out. Con­tri­bu­tions from Ros­ton Chase (24), Kea­cy Car­ty (13), and cap­tain Shai Hope (12) helped push the score near 300.

​In­dia’s dy­nam­ic spin ef­fort proved cru­cial in check­ing the vis­i­tors' mid-in­nings scor­ing rate. Kuldeep Ya­dav was the stand­out bowler for the home side, pick­ing up four for 40 in a dis­ci­plined 10-over spell that con­tin­u­al­ly broke threat­en­ing part­ner­ships. Fast bowler Prasidh Kr­ish­na pro­vid­ed sup­port from the oth­er end, tak­ing two for 60.
