Presentation College Chaguanas scored a massive 339-run win against winless Toco Secondary School as both teams maintained their perfect streaks at different ends of the spectrum in the Premier Division of the Secondary Schools Cricket League on Tuesday.
After travelling from the northeastern tip of the island, the visitors were kept in the field after the champion Presentation College won the toss and took the first knock at Presentation’s ground. Present-day batsmen took a liking to the bowling and piled up a mammoth 388 runs for 7 in 50 overs.
Luke Ali played the ultimate “captain’s knock” with 113 from 80 balls that set the champions innings on fire.
The wicketkeeper-batsman struck 16 fours and shared in a 210-run second-wicket partnership with the in-form Darrius Batoosingh, who scored 74. They were 247 for three in the 32nd over with both batsmen back in the pavilion, but they got further contributions from Saleem Khan (44 not out) and Jaden Joseph (38) as they got to 388.
Toco did not help themselves with 65 extras, including 49 wides. Despite the carnage suffered by the Toco bowlers, Zidane Woods took three for 57 as Toco’s best bowler.
In reply, Toco was bundled out for a paltry 49 in just 16.5 overs as the champions scored a convincing 339-run win. They could not work out the guile of Aneal Rooplal, who spun seven wickets for nine runs as Chaguanas remained unbeaten and Toco remained winless.
At Bamboo Settlement, Vishnu Boys Hindu College captain Andrew Rambaran followed up his 145 for Merryboys in the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board Premier League Division One with 94 as Vishnu Boys scored a 127-run win over Naparima College, who now slip to two straight losses after being unbeaten.
Vishnu scored 306 from their 50 overs after being sent in to bat at home. Rambaran hit ten fours and six sixes in his 94 that used only 77 balls.
Israel Gonzales scored 67, and Christian Lall scored 43 in the 99-run partnership with Gonzales. In reply, ‘Naps’ were bowled out for 179, with Amit Chan getting to 42.
Daniel Holder, Antonio Boodram, and Aaron Basant each took two wickets in the 127-run win for Vishnu Boys’ third win of the campaign.
