Teniel Campbell of PSL CC was the lone cyclist to complete the individual pursuit and one kilometre time trial double on the night when the T&T Cycling Federation (T&TCF) National Track Cycling Championships for Juniors, Under-23s, and Elites pedalled off at the National Cycling Velodrome in Balmain, Couva, on Thursday night.
In the individual pursuit, Campbell first posted the fastest time in qualification of four minutes, 53.62 seconds over 4 kilometres (16 laps) in the Under-23/Elite Women’s category, before she copped the title in the final ahead of main rival Aleix Ramirez of Heatwave, with Madonna Wheelers’s Adelle Gyan-Sootim third.
In the time trial (four laps), Campbell again had the top time of one minute, 10.550 seconds, ahead of Phoebe Sandy (Madonna Wheelers) and Suriname’s Tachana Dalger before she again rode away with the title, with Sandy taking the silver medal.
Syndel Samaroo was also a double winner on the night, but his two wins came in the Under-23 and Elite Men’s kilometre (four laps) Time Trial.
Samaroo of Team Colesafety Cycling won the Under-23 title ahead of Valkyries, while in the Elite Men he raced to the title with Liam Trepte of Raiders Cycle & Multi-Sport in the second spot, PSL’s Akil Campbell in third, and veteran Azikiwe Kellar of Madonna Wheelers in fourth. The championship continues today from 2 pm.
