Trinidad and Tobago's 'Calypso Girls' breezed to a 76-45 win over St. Vincent and the Grenadines to improve to 2-0 in the Americas Netball World Cup Qualifiers at the Sir Garfield Sobers Sports Complex, Bridgetown, St. Michael, Barbados, on Tuesday.
Coming off a 61-45 tournament-opening win over Grenada on Monday, the 12th-ranked 'Calypso Girls' led in attack by England-based Samantha Wallace-Joseph, who stamped their authority against the 19th-ranked St. Vincent and The Grenadines, who won their opener, 50-48, over the USA, and led 17-9 at the end of the first 15-minute quarter.
The second quarter was more of the same for the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games champions, as they once again dominated both ends of the court to win the quarter 19-8 to extend their lead to 36-17 at the half-time interval.
With T&T ahead 49-22 in the third period, Wallace-Joseph made her exit with the very reliable Maikea Bramble stepping into the shooting position, supported by goal-attack and captain Kalifa McCollin.
Bramble and McCollin combined to produce T&T's best-scoring quarter with 20 goals to St. Vincent and the Grenadines' 12 as they took a 56-29 lead into the final quarter.
The final 15-minute period was more of the same for T&T, with Bramble and McCollin having their way with the opposing defense, while goalkeeper Anecia Baptiste-Rodriguez and goalkeeper
Shaquanda Greene-Noel kept things quiet at the other end as the 'Calypso Girls' dominated 17-12 to secure the comfortable win, 73-41 to join Canada with two wins from as many matches.
Earlier on Tuesday, Canada punished the British Virgin Islands 67-20, and the USA overcame Grenada 61-42.
On Monday, St. Vincent and the Grenadines edged USA 50-48; Canada defeated St. Lucia 34-25, and host Barbados trounced the British Virgin Islands 79-14.
Speaking after the win against St. Vincent and the Grenadines, T&T head coach Liselle Johnson said she was pleased that her players improved on their first-day performance.
Johnson said, 'Coming out of the first game, we wanted to play a more tactical game and execute our game plan, and the girls did that today (Tuesday).
McCollin added, "One of the biggest things we wanted to do was limit our errors, and today (Tuesday) we had a strong team effort on defense, and I think it was the difference in the game today."
In the earlier matches, Canada faces St. Vincent and The Grenadines from 2 pm, followed by BVI against St. Lucia from 4 pm, and Barbados against Grenada from 6 pm.
Following the round-robin competition among the eight participating nations, the top two teams will advance to the 2027 Netball World Cup in Sydney, Australia, from August 25 to September 5, 2027.
