WAsalt Weapon remained ahead of the pack after three regattas of the T&T Powerboat Association, which took place over the weekend.
The Spec Class campaigner raced to a total of 595 points after a spate of successful results on Sunday. After entering the day’s events with an overall total of 1510 points from the previous two regattas for the year, the crew of throttleman Anthony Scott and driver Daniel Marc Warren steered the boat to victory, ahead of Ballistic and, third, S-Kapade, the same two competitors from the last event.
Three weeks ago, Asalt Weapon clinched the wins in the two sprint races contested, as it held off Ballistic, which claimed the runner-up positions in the sprints, and S-Kapade. Ballistic received 495 points for its performance, with S-Kapade receiving 320 points.
Like Asalt Weapon, Kraken controls the top position in the 60-mph class. It raced to the third-highest amount of points for the event at 480 points, as the crew got the better of Timeless and, third, Jesus Is Coming. Last year, Kraken was crowned the overall national champion boat, for which they were presented with two trophies and a hamper, while 80mph campaigner Pandemic/Outlaw got the Lennox Tang Yuk Championships title of two trophies and a cash prize.
The 60-mph class, considered the largest category with the most boats, saw the top three boats being followed by fourth-place Hooligan, with ‘Knot in Slow Motion’ securing the fifth-place finish. Another campaigner, Kism, failed to take the starting points for the two circuit races and a sprint event and received a total of 45 points.
Meanwhile, Track Heatwave sealed the win in the 80mph class. Weeks after the boat dominated their class with victories in three out of four events, the Heatwave team of Morgan Hannock (throttleman) and John Michael Sabga (driver) got the better of Shell Oytlaw.
Heatwave has been riding a wave of their history-making International Great Race of 2025, in which the crew produced a record of one hour, 15 minutes and 38 seconds in making the trek from Trinidad to the sister isle of Tobago.
