Flood­wa­ters are still ris­ing on the low­er end of the South Oropouche Drainage Basin, as Wood­land res­i­dents pre­pare for evac­u­a­tion in the event of more rain­fall.

At Pluck Road, San Fran­cique, two feet of wa­ter were record­ed on the flood gauge.

Res­i­dent Ku­mar Sookdeo said his Christ­mas dec­o­ra­tions and fridge float­ed away.

Pres­i­dent of the Wood­land Flood Ac­tion Group, Kevin Hard­uar, says that while the flood­gates were op­er­a­tional and tides were low, they were still tak­ing pre­cau­tions.

"Right now, with the rains we had yes­ter­day, all wa­ter rubbed off as far as Pe­nal and Bar­rack­pore, and we have a few breach­es. We have been up since 1 am, try­ing to se­cure our prop­er­ty."

Siparia May­or Dood­nath Mayrhoo told CNC3 News that just over 50 house­holds faced flood dam­age.

He says as­sess­ments will be done when the flood sub­sides.
