Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing two sep­a­rate shoot­ings which led to the wound­ing of two men be­tween Sun­day night and ear­ly yes­ter­day morn­ing.

In the first in­ci­dent, a 37-year-old me­chan­ic was open­ing the gate to his Madras Road, St He­le­na home around 10.05 pm when he was con­front­ed by a gun­man who shot him sev­er­al times.

A rel­a­tive, who saw the in­ci­dent via CCTV cam­era sys­tem, called the po­lice, who vis­it­ed the scene and took the wound­ed man to hos­pi­tal.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said the man was shot in his head and right hand and was list­ed as be­ing in sta­ble con­di­tion.

Sources said the at­tack­er sat in a white Toy­ota Aqua and wait­ed for the vic­tim.

Of­fi­cers of the Cunu­pia CID are con­tin­u­ing in­quiries.

Hours lat­er, at around 12 am yes­ter­day, a 24-year-old man was shot as he con­front­ed a group of men who threw bot­tles at his ve­hi­cle.

Po­lice said the man was about to leave Manuel Con­go, Ari­ma, when a group of men be­gan throw­ing glass bot­tles at his Nis­san Almera car.

The vic­tim ap­proached the men to con­front them, when he re­port­ed that one of the sus­pects pulled out a ri­fle and shot him once in his right leg and back.

The wound­ed man got in the car and drove to hos­pi­tal, where he was treat­ed.

Of­fi­cers of the Ari­ma CID were called in and are con­tin­u­ing in­quiries.
