Police are investigating two daring burglaries in Siparia and Barrackpore, which led to thousands of dollars in cash, jewellery, and equipment stolen over Thursday night and Friday morning.
In Siparia, staff at Sky Pâtisserie at De Gannes Village arrived Friday morning to find the doors forced open and the premises ransacked. Investigators said approximately $15,000 in cash and a grey Honeywell briefcase containing $3,500 were missing. Officers reported that the point of entry and exit was a small 3x3 ventilation fan on the side of the building.
Siparia Police, including PC Austin and PC Rampersad, arrived at the scene, interviewed witnesses, and reviewed CCTV footage. Crime Scene Investigators processed the site, but no workable fingerprints were recovered.
Meanwhile, in Barrackpore, a 51-year-old truck driver returned home Friday afternoon to discover his front window smashed, the door pried open, and his home thoroughly ransacked. Stolen items included gold jewellery valued at $43,000, welding equipment, a generator, a TCL television, two LPG gas tanks, a pressure washer, and other household items, bringing total losses to over $55,000.
A team of officers, including PC Ali, Ag/Cpl Huggins, and PC Regis, responded to the scene, collected statements, and spoke to several persons of interest. Crime Scene Investigators examined the property and recovered workable fingerprints. CCTV footage from surrounding areas has also been requested to aid the investigation.
Police are continuing enquiries in both cases and are urging anyone with information to contact the respective police stations.
