A 40-year-old secondary school teacher has been ordered to stay ten feet away from her two sons, after appearing in court charged with seven counts of cruelty against them.
The woman was also granted $175,000 bail with surety during her virtual appearance before High Court Master Shabiki Cazabon yesterday.
The charges stemmed from allegations of abuse, including locking her two young children, ages six and seven, in a dog kennel and a basement as punishment.
The charges followed nine months of detailed investigations by the Child Protection Unit (CPU), supervised by WSupt Powder, ASP Seecharan, WInsp Jacob, and WSgt Andrews.
The woman was arrested on December 11 and subsequently charged by PC Bharat of the Southern CPU. She was not called upon to plead to the charges.
She was represented by attorney Darren Mitchell. The matter was adjourned to January 21.
