A 43-year-old labourer was arrested for Possession of Firearm and Ammunition yesterday during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the St Mary’s Police District.
In a media release, the TTPS said officers also seized a firearm and a quantity of ammunition.
According to a police report, around 2:45 pm yesterday, PC Francis of the Southern Division Task Force (SDTF) – Area East, based on information received, proceeded to an auto dealership on Moruga Road regarding enquiries into a robbery.
While there a search of the 43-year-old suspect was conducted and a black and silver Beretta
PX4 firearm and 13 rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition were allegedly found.
The man was arrested and taken to the Princes Town Police Station and is expected to be charged with Possession of a Firearm and Possession of Ammunition.
He is also assisting officers regarding robbery reports in the Princes Town district.
Enquiries are continuing.
The exercise, which took place between the hours of 2 pm and 6 pm, was coordinated by Snr Supt Soodeen, ASP Phillip, Insp Mohammed, and Sgts Joseph and Mason. It was supervised by Cpl Lancaster and PC Narine and included officers of the SDTF – Area East.
