President Christine Kangaloo has extended Easter greetings to citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, urging reflection on the message of the season and its relevance to national life.
In her Easter 2026 message, Kangaloo said the observance marks the Resurrection of Jesus Christ and its significance within the Christian calendar.
She said Easter highlights themes of suffering, sacrifice, redemption and hope, and called on citizens to examine their actions in light of those teachings.
Kangaloo questioned whether citizens have followed the example of Jesus Christ in their daily lives, particularly in relation to peace, compassion and service to others.
She said actions in recent times have reflected conflict, indifference and division, rather than reconciliation and care for vulnerable groups.
Kangaloo said these patterns have affected the direction of society, noting that decline occurs over time when duty gives way to convenience and conscience is set aside.
She said Easter calls on citizens to assess their conduct and to make choices aligned with moral principles.
Kangaloo said the teachings of Jesus Christ emphasise brotherhood, mercy and humility, and she urged citizens to consider whether those values are being practised.
She said there has been an increase in actions that promote division, resentment and self-interest, instead of unity and cooperation.
Kangaloo said such choices are made within the country and contribute to national outcomes.
She said society does not change in a single moment but through repeated decisions that shape behaviour and attitudes.
Kangaloo also referenced the country’s mix of faiths, traditions and cultural backgrounds, stating that diversity remains a defining feature of Trinidad and Tobago.
She said the message of Easter extends beyond Christianity to all who value human dignity, moral responsibility and care for others.
President Kangaloo said the principles associated with Easter include renewal, accountability and collective responsibility.
She called on citizens to reject cruelty, selfishness and division, and to adopt values such as mercy, responsibility, restraint and solidarity.
Kangaloo said building a society for future generations requires action guided by these principles.
She said the example of Jesus Christ highlights service, inclusion and contribution to the common good.
Kangaloo extended Easter greetings to the Christian community and all citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.
The Prime Minister, Kamla Persad-Bissessar issued her Easter message on Holy Thursday where she wished the country a safe, peaceful and blessed Easter.
