In a harrowing turn of events, a Penal family was rushed to the Siparia Health Facility on Thursday amidst suspicions of poisoning.
Police said Amoy Maniero, 42, along with her two daughters are all now warded at the San Fernando General Hospital due to possible organophosphate poisoning.
Investigators said around 2.16 am, a nurse at the Siparia Health Facility alerted the authorities about the arrival of the three females, all exhibiting symptoms of suspected poisoning.
PC Bridgemohan and PC Maharaj arrived at the facility but were unable to interview the victims due to their critical medical condition. Preliminary reports state that around 10.30 pm on Wednesday, a meal of roast melongene and roti was prepared and all three victims ate it.
Shortly after consuming the meal, they began experiencing severe vomiting and stomach ache. They were rushed by EHS to the Siparia Health Facility for urgent medical attention.
Dr Sulimani attended to the victims and a medical certificate was obtained. The daughters were then transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital for further specialised treatment.
Police said the youngest teenager was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), while her sister received care in the Paediatric Ward. Police went to the house and seized samples of roast melongene, pieces of roti, and a mixture of a drink as potential evidence.
Members of the family are praying for the three victims to overcome the poisoning.
