Police are probing the murders of three men in Belmont, which occurred late Tuesday night leaving residents traumatised.
Police said around 11.25 pm, residents along Belmont Circular Road heard rapid gunfire, followed by the sound of a car slamming into a wall near Willis Street.
After the sound of gunshots subsided, residents emerged from their homes to find a white Mazda 323 vehicle crashed along the road.
Inside the car, three men were found suffering from gunshot wounds.
Two of the occupants, Josiah John, 22, and Kadeem Andrews, 22, both of Seranneau Road, were alive but severely injured.
Officers from the Port-of-Spain Task Force quickly took them to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead at 11.55 pm.
The third occupant, 28-year-old Arjenal Pong of Mandar Terrace, Upper St Francois Valley Road, was killed while in the driver’s seat of the car.
The father of one of the victims, who asked not to be identified, told Guardian Media yesterday that he was informed by witnesses that his son and another victim sustained gunshot wounds to their lower limbs.
He was shocked to learn that his son had died.
The father claimed that his son had been receiving threats from gang members in the area and, allegedly, from police officers linked to these individuals.
The man recalled a previous attempt on his son’s life, during which he narrowly escaped death.
Homicide officers are working to determine a motive behind the triple murder, although they are working on the theory that it could be gang activity.
