A police officer was assaulted while attempting to protect a 17-year-old girl from an attack on Sunday morning.
A police report stated that the incident occurred around 11.30 am on Quash Trace in Sangre Grande.
The officer reported that he noticed a commotion on the road and saw a resident assaulting the teenage girl.
When he tried to intervene, the suspect allegedly turned his aggression towards the officer.
Two other men then joined, one armed with a cutlass and the other with glass bottles. The man with the bottles began throwing them at the officer, forcing him to draw his licenced firearm and fire off a warning shot into the air.
The suspects then ran off.
The officer alerted the Eastern Division, and a response team led by ASP Jankee and Inspector Mahabir arrived shortly after.
Inspector Mahabir is continuing the investigation.
