A “peacemaker” who intervened in a fight between two women was stabbed in the back and later died in the hospital of his injuries. He was identified as courier Stephan Roberts, of Agua Santa Avenue in Diego Martin.
A 21-year-old woman from Diego Martin, who works as a cashier at SuperPharm, was also stabbed during the incident. She was treated at the hospital and discharged in stable condition.
Reports indicate that the cashier had just completed her shift and crossed the road to Sierra Leone Street around 8.30 pm, when she was confronted by a colleague with whom she had been involved in a verbal altercation earlier at work.
The 24-year-old woman, of Blue Range in Diego Martin, had been sent home by a supervisor around 7.30 pm.
According to reports, the aggrieved employee physically attacked the cashier, and as they began fighting, the cashier’s cellphone fell to the ground—and was picked up by another woman who had been standing with the female attacker.
The victim walked away towards the Diego Martin Main Road and was pursued by the two women—one of whom was reportedly armed with a switchblade.
Roberts, who was liming a short distance away and witnessed what was happening, rushed to part the two women and was stabbed twice in the back by the armed woman.
The cashier was also stabbed in the right shoulder.
An off-duty police officer attached to the Four Roads Police Station, who was passing by and saw the fight, also intervened. As residents liming on the road rushed to assist the two injured persons, the two females continued walking north along the Diego Martin Main Road.
The victims were taken to the St James Infirmary, where Roberts was pronounced dead around 9.14 pm.
Meanwhile, officers who responded to reports about the incident detained the two suspects—after their clothing was found to be soaked in blood.
During questioning, the women admitted to being involved in a fight with a man and woman on the road.
