The man who was struck and killed dur­ing a road traf­fic ac­ci­dent along the Churchill-Roo­sevelt High­way (CRH) on Wednes­day morn­ing, re­mained uniden­ti­fied up to yes­ter­day.

Po­lice said a 23-year-old man of Trans­fer Vil­lage, Debe, was dri­ving his black Toy­ota Al­tis east along the high­way in the vicin­i­ty of the Curepe Fly­over around 6.46 am when he struck the vic­tim who was at­tempt­ing to cross from north to south.

The vic­tim, who is of African de­scent, was clad in a blue jer­sey and red short pants.

The dri­ver alert­ed the po­lice and the Emer­gency Health Ser­vices who took the vic­tim to the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex, Mt Hope, where he was pro­nounced dead at 7.39 am.

The dri­ver’s ve­hi­cle was lat­er wrecked to the St Joseph Po­lice Sta­tion for pro­cess­ing and in­spec­tion. Checks were made by the CCTV Re­trieval Unit for footage from se­cu­ri­ty cam­eras in the area but of­fi­cials were lat­er in­formed that the cam­eras at that lo­ca­tion are cur­rent­ly of­fline.
