The Trinidad and To­ba­go De­fence Force (TTDF) is mourn­ing the death of a Coast Guard sailor who was in Colom­bia as part of a crew sup­port­ing the re­fit and up­grade of a ves­sel.

In a me­dia re­lease, the TTDF said pre­lim­i­nary in­for­ma­tion sug­gests the sailor died from nat­ur­al caus­es. How­ev­er, the cir­cum­stances re­main sub­ject to re­view and con­fir­ma­tion by the rel­e­vant au­thor­i­ties.

The TTDF did not re­lease the sailor’s name, say­ing it want­ed to no­ti­fy his fam­i­ly first. How­ev­er, it ex­tend­ed its con­do­lences to his fam­i­ly, loved ones and col­leagues, ac­knowl­edg­ing his ser­vice to T&T.

The TTDF said fur­ther in­for­ma­tion would be pro­vid­ed once the de­tails are ver­i­fied and the fam­i­ly du­ly in­formed.
