An Orange Level Hazardous Seas Alert was issued by the T&T Meteorological Service (TTMS) yesterday, extending until 8 am tomorrow. The alert is in effect for all north and eastern-facing coastlines of T&T, which includes most of the popular beaches.
The main impact is expected to be large breaking waves along near-shore coastal areas, which can affect fishing, swimming and boat moorings.
According to the TTMS, additional impacts may include the intrusion of salt water and the displacement of sand as waves may reach farther inland than usual. These impacts are expected to be exacerbated at high tide times.
The TTMS advised marine interests to exercise extreme caution when conducting nearshore activities and secure coastal property (such as boats) if necessary.
This is only the second Orange Level Hazardous Seas Alert issued by the TTMS (the first was issued in December 2022) since the implementation of the colour-coded Early Warning System.
