Four men were ar­rest­ed on Wednes­day in con­nec­tion with the theft of elec­tric­i­ty ca­bles val­ued at $186,000.

Po­lice said of­fi­cers as­signed to the Cu­mu­to Po­lice Sta­tion re­ceived two re­ports last week con­cern­ing the lar­ce­ny of ca­bles along the Elmi­na Clarke High­way.

Fol­low­ing the re­ports, of­fi­cers con­duct­ed a sur­veil­lance ex­er­cise on Sep­tem­ber 28 and 29.

On Tues­day, Sep­tem­ber 29, of­fi­cers act­ing on in­tel­li­gence took up strate­gic po­si­tions along the high­way.

Po­lice said short­ly af­ter­wards, they ob­served a black Nis­san X-Trail trav­el­ling along the road­way with four oc­cu­pants.

The ve­hi­cle was in­ter­cept­ed and searched.

Dur­ing the search, of­fi­cers al­leged­ly found an as­sort­ment of tools hid­den in­side the ve­hi­cle, in­clud­ing wire cut­ters, bolt cut­ters, hack­saw blades, pli­ers and knives.

The four oc­cu­pants were ar­rest­ed.

They were iden­ti­fied as a 25-year-old man from Man­zanil­la, a 28-year-old man and two 29-year-old men, all from San­gre Grande.

The men re­main in po­lice cus­tody as in­ves­ti­ga­tions con­tin­ue in­to the re­port­ed ca­ble thefts.

Po­lice have not dis­closed whether the stolen ca­bles were re­cov­ered or whether the sus­pects have been charged.
