A 45-year-old driver was kidnapped and robbed during a vehicle viewing in Barataria yesterday.
The victim reported that he was instructed to take a Nissan NP300 van advertised for sale on Facebook Marketplace to Sixth Avenue, Barataria, near the Community Centre. While waiting, he received a call from a private number directing him to Sparrow Avenue.
After arriving at the new location, one man approached and identified himself as the customer. As the victim exited the vehicle, a second man armed with a knife grabbed him from behind and forced him into the back of the van, threatening to kill him if he did not comply.
The suspects drove off in an unknown direction. One of the men robbed the victim of two Republic Bank debit cards, a Scotia Bank credit card, $400 in cash and a Samsung cellphone. The victim was also forced to hand over his card PINs.
Sometime later, the men dropped him off near Second Caledonia Extension and Arneaud Avenue before escaping in the van towards Lady Young Road.
Police have launched an investigation and are seeking CCTV footage from the area.
