Human jawbones found by a dog led police to the decomposing body of a man in Mon Repos, San Fernando, yesterday.
The shocking discovery was made at around 5.05 pm by the Vallence Rambharat-led Hunters’ Search and Rescue team in bushes about 200 feet off Wooding Street.
The body was clad in male clothing.
A resident contacted police sometime after 9 am, after he saw his neighbour’s dog with what appeared to be human jawbones opposite his home. He later contacted the search and rescue team around 2 pm to conduct a search, as he was concerned there might be a body somewhere in the neighbourhood.
In an interview afterwards, Rambharat said a foul stench led the team to the body, which was missing the lower jaw.
The body was clad in blue jeans and a belt.
Rambharat said they had no information about any missing person from the area and their records showed that no one had been reported missing to them.
“We could account for all the persons who went missing in the last six months in the Mon Repos district,” he said.
Police were last evening working to identify the deceased and are awaiting an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Mon Repos police are investigating.
