A 41-year-old Barataria man is to be charged for two sep­a­rate mur­ders, po­lice of­fi­cials said.

Of­fi­cers of the Re­gion II Homi­cide Bu­reau met with of­fi­cials from the of­fice of the Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions (DPP) yes­ter­day, where they re­ceived ad­vice to charge the man with the mur­ders.

Po­lice con­firmed that the sus­pect was ar­rest­ed on Wednes­day as part of en­quiries in­to the mur­ders of Sir Ja­mal Ram­per­sad and Isa­iah Jules, both of which took place in Jan­u­ary.

Be­tween late Jan­u­ary and ear­ly Feb­ru­ary, three peo­ple - in­clud­ing a 17-year-old girl - have been charged with Ram­per­sad’s mur­der.

Po­lice said Ram­per­sad, 25, was last seen alive at a restau­rant in Curepe on the night of Jan­u­ary 14.

He told rel­a­tives he would re­turn home at a lat­er time af­ter meet­ing with a woman he in­ter­act­ed with on so­cial me­dia.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said the lat­est sus­pect held is al­so a per­son of in­ter­est in the mur­der of Isa­iah Jules at Lawrence Park, Ari­ma, al­so in Jan­u­ary.

Sources re­port­ed that the man was be­lieved to be part of a wider rob­bery ring, as rob­bery was the mo­tive of both mur­ders.
