A 41-year-old Barataria man is to be charged for two separate murders, police officials said.
Officers of the Region II Homicide Bureau met with officials from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) yesterday, where they received advice to charge the man with the murders.
Police confirmed that the suspect was arrested on Wednesday as part of enquiries into the murders of Sir Jamal Rampersad and Isaiah Jules, both of which took place in January.
Between late January and early February, three people - including a 17-year-old girl - have been charged with Rampersad’s murder.
Police said Rampersad, 25, was last seen alive at a restaurant in Curepe on the night of January 14.
He told relatives he would return home at a later time after meeting with a woman he interacted with on social media.
Investigators said the latest suspect held is also a person of interest in the murder of Isaiah Jules at Lawrence Park, Arima, also in January.
Sources reported that the man was believed to be part of a wider robbery ring, as robbery was the motive of both murders.
