Antigua police have charged Alexta Francis, 27, with the murder of St Peter Member of Parliament, Asot Michael.
The murder charge follows his confession to investigators who had been questioning him since his arrest on Thursday.
Francis reportedly showed investigators key evidence and also insisted he had no accomplice.
The motive for the fatal stabbing of the legislator is expected to be revealed during the pending court proceedings against him.
Francis, who is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, reportedly has had previous run-ins with law, including Malicious Damage and Escaping Lawful Custody.
This is a major development within days of the Michael’s murder, which sent shockwaves across the nation.
Michael, who was an independent legislator, was found in a pool of blood in his Dry Hill home on Tuesday. — ST JOHN’S, Antigua (CMC)
