This inaugural fundraiser will commemorate the United Nations International Day of Peace, observed annually on September 21, aimed at supporting Rotary’s peacebuilding initiatives, particularly the Youth Empowerment and Support Initiatives project.
In addition to inspirational speakers, the event will feature the highly anticipated fashion segment coordinated by renowned creative director Richard Young. The segment will showcase the designs of local and regional talent, including Kooti’s, Charu Lochan Dass (CLD), Lisa Faye Hand Dyed Silk Clothing, The Cloth, Indigenous Designs by Dominique La Roche, Neha Karina, Elizabeth Lucas, and Mark Eastman.
Adding to the excitement, Anna-Lise Nanton, Miss World Trinidad and Tobago, will grace the runway, offering attendees an unforgettable display of fashion and creativity.
Prof Rose-Marie Belle Antoine, campus principal of The University of the West Indies, St Augustine, is the featured speaker and will address the audience on the topic: Empowering the Next Generation: Education as the Foundation for Peace and Social Justice. Debbie Roopchand, Rotary District 7030 Governor, and Joanna Kazana, United Nations Resident Coordinator in T&T, will also deliver brief remarks.
Lara Quentrall-Thomas, Past Rotary District 7030 Governor, will serve as Master of Ceremonies. The Hats & Heels event will raise funds for The Rotary Foundation and champion initiatives that empower youth through education, support impoverished students, and promote conflict prevention.
Over the past five years, Rotary District 7030 has contributed approximately US$1.5 million to The Rotary Foundation, multiplying these efforts through access to grants, which have funded impactful projects across the region.
“The event is expected to serve as an excellent platform to celebrate peace, encourage educational opportunities, and create sustainable impacts within local communities. Through initiatives such as extra lessons, vocational training, and mental health support, Rotary remains dedicated to fostering peaceful environments where young people can thrive,” a release stated.
