Chinese Arrival Day will be observed on October 12. This year marks the 220th anniversary of the arrival of the first group of Chinese migrants to Trinidad and Tobago, with 192 migrants aboard the Fortitude in 1806.
A second organised wave of 2,645 indentured Chinese labourers arrived in Trinidad and Tobago between 1853 and 1866. Since then, there have been other waves of migration. The descendants of these migrants have had a profound impact on the culture, economy and society of Trinidad and Tobago.
In recognition of this event, the Art Society of Trinidad and Tobago, in conjunction with the National Trust, held an art exhibition at Mille Fleurs Heritage House, featuring various artists and their work.
